Copy Machines Botany Department - Facilities Guide

Copy Machines

Departmental Copy Machine A xxx is located in the Departmental Office. You need an auditron to activate this machine (available in the office).

This machine is intended for professional use only. The department is billed (at 10 cents per page) for its use. Record all copies on the log sheet in the copy room.

Personal copies can be made in Hamilton Library.

It is Botany Department policy that graduate students may make up to xxx copies per year for their research needs. These copies need to be logged, just as any other copies.

Campus Duplicating

Large copying jobs should be sent to Campus Duplicating Services. They require about a week to complete a job. All copying must be paid through the department or research accounts. You need to complete a UH Duplicating Services FORM XX; this needs to be signed by the Botany Chair or research project PI and the departmental Fiscal Officer.

Library Copying

Most copying of journal articles is done in Hamilton library. If you are going to do quite a bit of copying, consider purchasing a debit card (you pay a fixed amount in advance, then use the card like a credit card in the copy machine). Debit cards can be purchased at the circulation desk.

It is possible to arrange for a short-term loan of journal materials so that they can be taken elsewhere for copying, but this is generally not recommended. See the Sci-Tech staff for assistance in arranging such a loan.

The library copy machines get a lot of use. They are frequently broken or out of paper. The library is aware of this and is seeking way to improve services. When you have a copying problem, it helps to complain.

Thesis/Dissertation Copying

There are several commercial services (such as xxx at the Campus Center) that provide quality copying on or near campus.

Enlargements and Reductions

The departmental copy machine does both enlargements and reductions. It handles paper sizes up to 11 x 17. See the office staff for help loading large paper.

If you need even larger size copies (such as for poster sessions), there is a machine at Artwork Graphics (1519 S. King Street - at Kalakaua) that copies on 17" x 22" paper (although it doesn't enlarge). Paste up your text and use the large-format machien to get a good final copy.

Color Copies

Most of the commercial copying companies make color copies. They can do this from prints or slides. Prices and quality vary, so it is a good idea to shop around.
