A science segue is a modeled transition that naturally occurs in the frontier between two scientific disciplines.

Segues can be used as mechanisms to introduce students to a range of sciences while they are studying one particular science.

Workshop 2007

Workshop 2008

The 2008 Annual meeting of the Society for Economic Botany will be held at Duke University June 1-5, 2008. The Theme of the meeting is "Building upon the Legacy of Botanical Education and Traditional Knowledge" See www.econbot.org for registration information

The Ethnobotany Segues to Science Project will be featured in four ways within the meeting:

  1. Will McClatchey will be presenting results of the initial project year during the opening symposium session as one of the key note speakers.
  2. ALL project participants are encouraged to present their results as papers and posters within the contributed sessions of the meeting. Given the general theme of this meeting, this is a great opportunity for us to show off our course and curriculum development activities.
  3. A display booth and poster area will be set aside specifically for demonstration of the Segues to Science Project. This will be on display during the entire meeting with volunteers available to discuss the project and distribute information about it.
  4. A workshop will be held that will be:
    • Well advertised (beyond SEB and the usual education networks)
    • Organized for in two sections: 1) teaching about segues, 2) developing segues
    • Designed to deliver a product (we have several ideas in mind, but want to hear suggestions)
    • Supported (grants are being written!)
