Rocks for the MIT Media Lab Field Experiment

January 20, 2001

Rock creation starts with finding the right size, shape and texture in a real rock.

The next step is to paint a few coats of liquid latex over the rock.  This begins the creation of a mold.

In this case, the final "fake rock" will be about 8 inches tall and have a base about 6 inches wide.

Don't worry about the color.  Remember that this is just the mold.  The rocks will be a light gray color.  That is a step or two away.

The rocks are the creation of Michael Lurvey, our rock designer.

This is a posed picture since it is hard to keep Michael still long enough for a picture.  He has an interest in, and fingers on, virtually every aspect of our project.
