Thesis Title:
Biological Resource Management in the Republic of Kiribati

Personal Statement:
I am working in the Republic of Kiribati to quantitatively document vegetation composition on atolls for comparison in three rainfall zones. A further goal of this work will be to understand the land-management practices of the I-Kiribati people and the impact of management types and cessation of management on vegetation composition and structure. Practices and perceptions of biological resources in Kiribati are a reflection of underlying ecological knowledge of environmental processes which shape the landscape. This work has implications for resource management and planning particularly in light of global climate change.
