Dissertation Title:
The Impact Of Groundwater, Nutrients, Algae, And Herbivorous Fish On Hawaii's Reefs; An Ecological Approach

Research Interests:

  • Natural resource management
  • Algal taxonomy
  • Alien invasive algae
  • Groundwater, nutrients, algae, and herbivorous fish interactions on Hawaii's reefs

Personal Statement:
I was born and raised in the district of South Hilo on the Island of Hawaii. As I was growing up I spent the majority of my free time in or near the ocean. Some of my favorite ocean activities included surfing, diving for fish, and picking opihi. As an adult I spend my days collecting and analyzing data from tropical reefs. I owe my spirituality, health, and career to the ocean. I consider the reef to be my kuleana (responsibility). My goal in life is to sustain Hawaii's marine resources for generations to come.
