Thesis Title:
To be announced

Personal Statement:
I believe that better biological understanding of key native macroalgal species will increase restoration and conservation management success in Hawaii's marine systems. Spyridia filamentosa research will potentially highlight an important relationship between two native species, a red macroalga and an endemic seagrass. I hope to show the necessity of natural succession in dynamic soft-sediment systems and hope to use molecular tools to examine the genetic diversity of S. filamentosa (a potential primary colonizer) throughout the Hawaiian Archipelago. Such genetic diversity may be key to successful seagrass restoration.
