Dissertation Title:
Traditional forest and agroforest in the Jangkat Community, Sumatra Indonesia

Statement
I am an ethnoecologist with particular research interest on the way traditional people manage and use their local natural resources. I undertake my research with Jangkat community, groups of indigenous people who occupy pristine forest enclaves within the Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatra -Indonesia. The community has lived in the area for a long time before the park was established and has been relatively isolated from other surrounding communities for centuries. This long isolation has led the people to develop adaptive strategies that address the natural challenges they face in continuing their existence, by maintaining a level of harmony with the given environment.
