Pili (Heteropogon contortus)PILIHABLAVACrop.jpg (193573 bytes)
is a grass which produces many narrow leaves that may reach 90 cm in length. 

It inhabits dry sites and is a "pioneer" species. The photo on the right shows pili grass invading a weathered lava field.

It faces stiff competition from alien grasses, especially fountain grass.
