Axis3DEPPX300.gif (21321 bytes) BIODDicotRootXSLab300.gif (36717 bytes)
Simple 3D Model of tissue organization in a Root. Diagram of tissue organization in a typical Root.

The Vascular Cylinder in Roots occupies the center of the organ and primarily contains Xylem which is typically the innermost tissue.

The Vascular Cylinder is surrounded by the Cortex which is composed of Ground Tissues.

The Epidermis is the surface layer.

Sections 'uki'uki  Roots show the organization of Vascular Tissues.
Section seen with Normal Light.

Similar to the image on the left but viewed with Polarized Light. Cells with thick walls appear bright. Thick walls provide strength to plant organs. Xylem cell walls are very thick compared to those in the Phloem
