Start with a Typical Parenchyma Cell

Add a Casparian Strip

EndoCell3D2.jpg (23082 bytes)
Stack-1: The Casparian Strip is united between each Cell. The Suberin permeates the Primary Cell Wall and Pectins of the Middle Lamella to form a solid seal.

Keep on Stacking!!!

EndoCell3D4.jpg (33300 bytes)
OK! OK! I got it!!!!!!!

EndoCellD3.jpg (42459 bytes)
Add a stack to the Left!!

EndoCellD4.jpg (51864 bytes)
Add another Stack and so on!!!!

Endo3DSepCaspStrip.jpg (45412 bytes)
I separated these two cell stacks to emphasize that the Casparian Strip forms an unbroken barrier to Apoplastic movement. Molecules must enter the Plasmalemma to get to the other side. This means that the movement of water and solutes comes under Biological Control.
