General Viewing

Focus on specimen with Low Power Objective (2.5X, 4X or 6.3X).
Focus Oculars (especially the one with the photo reticule).
Set "Optivar" to 1.25.
Swing up High Power Condenser Lens
Change Objective to 10X or 16X.
Focus on Specimen.
Move Specimen out of the field of view.
Make sure that Condenser Iris is Completely OPEN.
Close Field Diaphragm COMPLETELY.
Focus the Condenser so that Field Diaphragm is as SMALL as possible.
Center the Condenser.
Expand the Field Diaphragm to the edge of the Field of View.
Fine-Center the Condenser.
Expand the Field Diaphragm JUST BEYOND the Field of View.
Adjust the Condenser Iris (16X and above).

Photomicroscopy

Check to see that the Correct Filters are being used.
The built-in Blue Daylight Filter must always be used.
Place a second  Bluefilter over the Field Diaphragm for unstained and Phloroglucinol-stained material.
Remove the second Blue Filter for Toluidine Blue-Stained samples.
Select a 10 - 40X Objective & Focus on Specimen.
Select the General Area for Photography.
Pull out the Beam Path Control Knob to the Black Line.
Select the Specific Area to be photographed.
Align Specimen by Rotating the Stage.
Adjust the final Magnification with "Optivar".
Move the Specimen Out of the Field of View
Focus the Ocular for the Photo-Reticule.
Focus, Center & Expand the Field Diaphragm
Move the Specimen back into the Field & Increase Illumination for Fine Focusing
Adjust the Condenser Iris (especially for 25X & above)
Reduce Illumination to the Blue Line & Press the A Button
