If you access the Internet with a Modem it takes a long time to download pages that contain graphics files.
The use of JPG & GIF compression formats eases this problem somewhat. However, if you want each of your web pages to contain several images they may still be slow to open.
Consequently, authors like Dr. Carr use small, linked images as "Thumbnails". When you click on a Thumbnail you open a larger image. This could be linked to larger image like a Russian Doll.
Pages with Thumbnails download significantly faster that if each large image was displayed.
Programs like FrontPage have a command that automatically makes Linked Thumbnails from full sized images. However, it is good to learn how to do this with PhotoDeluxe so that you can accomplish all of your graphics tasks with one program.
