Comprehensive Question
A scientist has just returned from an expedition in Parador which is a tropical country. She has brought back a rare plant used by the Endorphin Tribe to ease pain. It is also used in religious ceremonies to achieve higher states of unconsciousness. This indicates that the plant might have potential medical applications (hint hint hint). They were very secretive about showing her the whole plant and its habitat but she managed to get part of it from a friendly Endorphin shaman who assured her that this was the right stuff.
It is approximately 5 cm in length. The piece is encased in sacred mud that was applied right after it was cut from the source. It is elongate and somewhat flattened. It was clearly cut transversely at both ends. It may still be alive as it was removed from the mother plant just before you departed from Parador.
She brings this to you and asks you to tell her the following.
a] Is it a Stem, Leaf or Root. List the steps you would follow in the best sequence to answer this & indicate which traits would be definitive. Be sure to include all possible analytical routes because you can't be certain that all avenues of analysis have been retained by the specimen. Some cells tissues or organs may be missing or damaged!!!!!!
