The fruits of Apples and Pears (Pyrus) are similar to those of the Cucurbitaceae because they develop from Epigynous Flowers with an Inferior Ovary.
They are classified as Berries but are also Accessory Fruits because of the Hypanthium that is fused with the Ovary Wall (Pericarp). These fruits are specifically "false berries" or called Pomes.
