Some are Epiphytes while a few are Endophytes with Diatoms.

Some are Symbionts and some are Parasites.

Growth Forms Bangiophyceae

Class Bangiophyceae

Mostly Marine with a few freshwater species.

They include Unicellular and Filamentous species.

The latter range from Uniseriate to Multiseriate filaments.

Multiseriate filaments would have more than one filament side by side.

They may be Unbranched or Branched,

Rhodochloron is an example of a simple, branched, filamentous morphology.

Prostrate or Upright

 

They may be Monostromatic (One Layer Thick) or Polystromatic (Many Layers Thick)

The Most Advanced forms are called Diffuse Foliose.

Their Cells Divide in 2 - 3  Planes

They are attached to the substrate by a Holdfast Cell or a Group of Rhizoidal Cells at the base of the Thallus.
