They can be Large & Laminate
(flat) or Small & Ovoid.
They have a Double Limiting Membrane.
However, they have one peculiarity that is noteworthy. The Chloroplasts are enveloped by Endoplasmic Reticulum which is continuous with the Nuclear Envelope.
They do not have Grana per se but they have characteristic
Stacks of three Thylakoids.
They have a higher
level of chloroplast organization than the Rhodophyta
There are No Phycobillins or Phycobillisomes
They are Eukaryotes and have membrane bound organelles that are Similar
to "Higher Plants" .
They have Flagellated
Gametes but they do not have any flagellated vegetative
cells.
