Close-up of Rough ER. These appear tubular in sections but they are flattened structures called Cisternae. Cisternae are like Pita bread. The two layers of bread represent membranes and the space in the middle represents the lumen. ER produces Vesicles. These may fuse with Dictyosomes, the Vacuole Membrane (Tonoplast) or the Plasmalemma.
