Scanning EM images show that the Cell Wall  is composed of overlapping Cellulose Fibrils. Cellulose is very Hydrophilic. Embossed Image of the image on the left. This emphasizes some aspects of the Cell Wall.
Imagine that the computer screen is the Plasmalemma and that we are in the cytoplasm looking towards the monitor. The Cell Wall would be inside the monitor.
The Cell Wall would be like a screen on the outside of a window.  You are inside the the cell looking through the Window (Plasmalemma) at the dirty Screen (Cell Wall). The Apoplast begins on the other side of the window glass!
