We have described defoliating leaf spot diseases of the shrub ohelo (Vaccinium reticulatum) and the closely related tree ohelo (V. calycinum) caused by apparently different species of Septoria (Gardner and Hodges, 1988). The Septoria spp. are probably new species, but have not yet been formally described as such.
Septoria leaf spot diseases of ohelo
(left), and tree ohelo (right). Although the pathogens have not yet been
formally described, these diseases appear to be associated with two distinct species of Septoria.
Less commonly found heavy infection of Septoria leaf
spot on tree ohelo. Leaf spots coalesce to form irregular necrotic blotches.
