Verbascum thapsus on the Island of Hawaii exhibits unusually shaped, gigantic inflorescences (Fig A normal inflorescence; Fig B and C fasciated inflorescences). We are investigating whether this morphological condition is heritable and whether it has contributed to V. thapsus' rapid invasion of Hawaii. Fasciated inflorescences produce many more seeds than normal inflorescences. (Graduate student: Shahin Ansari)
