Gunnera petaloidea, 'ape'ape. Hawaiian endemic. These plants harbor a blue-green alga that is capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen.  This species has perfect flowers sometimes mixed with male and female flowers scattered throughout the inflorescence.
Gunnera macrophylla. Despite it name, this species is much smaller than those in Hawaii.  It also has unisexual flowers; male in the upper part of the inflorescence, female in the lower.
