This hybrid combination is apparently rare but has been observed in two widely separated sites on E Maui where the parental species are sympatric. Two individuals of this hybrid combination had a mean pollen stainability of 82% and exhibited a maximum chromosome pairing configuration of 12II + 1M3 during meiosis.
