|D. menziesii||Natural Hybrid||D. platyphylla|
Because of the morphological similarity of the parents, this hybrid combination is difficult to identify, especially in vegetative condition. It appears to be generated in substantial numbers on the borders of gulches of Haleakala, E Maui where the parental species intermingle. In addition to modal differences in habitat preferences of the parents, there is substantial degree of seasonal temporal isolation of the parental species. Three individuals of this hybrid combination had an average pollen stainability of 99% and exhibited normal chromosome pairing (13II) during meiosis.
