The hybrid plant in the photograph was grown in cultivation from cuttings collected in the field near Kalalau Lookout, Kauai. Three individuals of this combination had a mean pollen stainability of 50%. The maximum chromosome pairing configuration observed in the cultivated plant was 12II + 1M4 at meiosis. The formal designation xDubautia mendax Sherff has been applied to this hybrid combination.
