This hybrid combination had a pollen stainability of up to 41% but the stainable grains were almost all larger than normal and tetracolporate, suggesting that they were derived from unreduced (diploid) meiocytes.  Microsporocytes in meiosis displayed univalents and commonly 1-4 pairs (rarely up to 6 pairs) of chromosomes.  A few cells with one chain of three or one chain of four chromosomes indicate that the genomes of the parents are probably differentiated by at least one translocation.
