|A. grayanum||Artificial Hybrid||A. sandwicense|
This hybrid was produced spontaneously when the parents were grown in close proximity in cultivation at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Two of three hybrid seedlings detected were transplanted to growth facilities at the University of Hawaii Botany Department where they eventually flowered. The third seedling survived and flowered in cultivation at HVNP. Pollen stainability averaged 63% in two individuals. The maximum (and modal) chromosome association observed during meiosis was 12II and 1 M4.
