Status Endemic
Distribution & Habitat Plants have been found at elevations from about 1,000 to 1,460 m. 

Grows on old lava flows and ash substrates, in open Metrosideros forests and shrublands (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 786).

They have been found is several locations on Hawai`i Island, including Ocean View Estates, Ka`u District and Kilauea.

Locations in this Guide Devil's Throat.  There are several large plants on the south side of the highway and many in the forest on the opposite side of the highway.
General Appearance
Shrub that generally grows 0.5 to 1 m tall.
Leaves
The leaves are 3 to nearly 7 cm long and 1 to 1.5 cm wide.
Flowers & Fruits
Flowers usually occur in clusters with 3 to 7 individuals.
