Distribution & Habitat Plants occur between 380 and 1,920 m.  They have been found on all the main islands except Ni`ihau and Kaho`olawe (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1140).

This species is found growing in open areas in wet forests, in the margins of bogs and, occasionally, in mesic forests (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1140).

General Appearance
Small shrubs with stems 30 cm to 2 m long.
Leaves
The leaves are widely spaced on the stems.  The range in length, usually from 6 to 16 cm long and 2.5 to 5.5 cm wide (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1140).

The seeds are pale brown (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1140).
