Distribution & Habitat Grows from near sea level to 610 m on all the main islands except Kaho`olawe (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1348).
Locations in this Guide Kipuka Puaulu (a few plants scattered along the trail -- note that some, especially near the end of the trail, are very large).
General Appearance
This species form shrubs that grow 2 to 3.5 m (6 to 20 ft) tall.

The stems are generally unbranched, although there may be a few branches (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1348).

Leaves
The leaves are green.  They are 40 to 80 cm long and 8 to 16 cm wide (Wagner, et al. 19XX: 1348).

Other Notes This species is cultivated and found extensively through the islands.  Hawaiians used the leaves for many purposes (Wagner, et al. 19XX 1348).
