Plant fibers are used in every culture. Fibers are essential to survival in traditional societies so knowledge of fiber sources and their usage is a critical element of traditional ethnobotanical knowledge. Trade or commerce possibly began with exchanges of fibers and/or dyes used on fibers. This episode presents the major ways in which fibers are used and some of the more important plants that are used as sources.
