| Traditional Chinese Medicine |
|
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was developed over three thousand years ago. TCM includes the use of acupuncture, moxibustion, qigong therapy, and herbal medicines. However, these different therapeutic methods are essentially based on two fundamental concepts: Yin-Yang and Five Elements. This episode is not about the use of Chinese traditional medicinal plants; rather, it is about the concepts upon which TCM is developed. The first half of the episode is a brief introduction to Yin-Yang and the Concept of Five Elements. This is followed by a discussion of a traditional Chinese remedy involving four plants that illustrates the roles of fundamental concepts in treatment formulations.
