Computing & Printing

Computing
Graduate students are expected to have their own computers or use ones provided by their advisors. However, a department computer is available for limited use in the St. John 101 workspace opposite the mailboxes. Room 609 is also equipped with two computers and two laser printers (in need of some geek love). Keys to 609 can be found on lanyards in each grad student office.

UH Information Technology Services (ITS) maintains a website that provides up-to-date information on the university computing system and details regarding your email account (passwords, preferences, etc.), virus alerts, and available services. For your UH computing needs, check out www.hawaii.edu/infotech

Wireless: For information about wireless networking at UH, check out www.hawaii.edu/wireless

Help Desk: For technical support, contact the ITS Help Desk at 6-8883, help@hawaii.edu, or Keller 105.

Printing
Most of your printing needs should be covered through resources provided by your advisor. However, networked departmental printers are available for use.

St. John 101: A monochrome laser printer (HP 1320) is available for use during work hours in the St. John 101 workspace. Note that this printer is capable of duplexing and don’t forget to log your usage– how many sides printed and for what purpose. Please be conservative in your printing as toner runs out VERY quickly.

St. John 609: Two monochrome last printers (HP Laser- Jet III) are available at all times in St. John 609. These do not automatically duplex and are a little slow, but they work reliably.

St. John 411A: For posters, a plotter is available in the GIS lab. To use the plotter, contact Stephanie Saephan, the GIS lab manager. (saephan@hawaii.edu)
