Educational Programs Offered by the Botany Department
Hawai'i's location provides the best opportunity in the nation for hands-on
botanical exploration of both marine and terrestrial tropical ecosystems.
Moreover, the isolation and geology of the islands has produced a unique
flora and a context to probe questions of systematic, evolutionary, and
ecological diversity that are unmatched by any other location on earth.
The interaction of Hawaiian and introduced species provides a rich assemblage
of conservation problems and offers many opportunities to study resource
management, restoration, and preservation.
