Introductory Ethnobotany

Exams

Two exams (mid-term and final) will be given, that are of equal weight toward the grade.

The mid-term and final exams consist of multiple choice, fill-in-the-blanks, and short essay questions. The mid-term exam covers all materials from the first day of class through the week before the exam. The final exam is not cumulative but only covers materials from the mid-term exam through the end of the course.

The mid-term exam will take place on June 13, 2008 in the room that is normally used for the class. The same date will be used regardless of the section in which the student is registered. A schedule will be posted with many different test times and students will be able to choose a test time that is most convenient.

Final exams will be given on the days assigned in the schedule of classes for each section (July 2, 2008).

Exam content will frequently be discussed during the in-class meetings, so attendance is highly beneficial. Some exam questions will be developed based upon the results of in-class activities, so participation is very helpful for each student. Most exam questions will be produced from the video episodes and the reading assignments.

Students who have difficulty taking exams should discuss their situation with the instructor at least a few days in advance of the exam. Students should plan their schedules to take the exams on the scheduled dates. Those who miss the examination with a valid excuse will be given a different make-up exam. Those  with foreseeable absences should arrange in advance to take make-up exams. A make-up exam will not be given to students without a valid excuse. The instructor reserves the right to determine what is valid and what is not, based upon the University of Hawai'i policies.
