Island Ecosystems: types and characteristics of islands, evolutionary
and ecological phenomena peculair to islands (e.g., extreme adaptive
radiation, high endemism); review of theories of island biogeography.
Emphasis on Hawaii and other Pacific Islands.
Resource Management: review of prehistoric through contemporary
patterns of human land use and biological resource management
in island ecosystems; role of government and public in development of
management policy; review of environmental legislation relevant to
island ecosystems.
