ISLAND OF MOLOKAI

po'olau

This site was just south of Pu'uoka'i and is a medium sized crescent shaped bay with a narrow mouth facing west. Despite the west facing nature of this site it was fairly protected from swell. The middle of the bay was primarily sand bottomed with basalt shelves lining either side. We collected and surveyed along both sides of the basalt shelves. There was evidence of a seasonal stream entering the northern part of the bay but it was not running during our visit. Acanthophora spicifera was collected in small abundance in only two tidepools throughout this entire site. No other alien species were found here. There was no shore activity aside from beach goers and snorkelers.
