The Cell Wall is composed of Cellulose Fibrils which resemble a thick knitted pair of gloves or a sweater. The wall is Outside of the Plasmalemma & is consequently part of the Apoplast. (Apo = Outside, Plast refers to the Protoplast) which includes the Plasmalemma and all within it. The relationship between the Cell Wall and the Plasmalemma is revealed when the Cell Wall is peeled away from the Plasmalemma revealing the Protoplast which is part of the Symplast. (Sym = Together). The Protoplasts of adjacent cells are connected via Plasmodesmata and are thus united (Sym).
The concept of the Apoplast & the Symplast is Very Important for the study of Plant Physiology!!!!!
